Papillomas in the body are benign formations of infectious nature. Predominantly 16 and 18 strains tend to degenerate into malignant forms (a total of more than 100 species are known). Wart and papilloma are synonymous terms.
Characteristics of the disease:
- It occurs in people of any age, especially women (the number of cases detected is 1. 5 times higher than in men).
- Infection occurs through contact-household or sexual contact. It goes unnoticed for a long time because the virus has no strong effect on the immune system. In addition, only the viral DNA remains after introduction into the genome, and not the virus itself (it is almost impossible to remove).
- Many vaccines exist to reduce infections and reduce susceptibility to viral agents.
- Post-infection immunity is type-specific, non-crossed, non-stressful, and low, indicating the potential for re-infection.
Cause
The main cause of papilloma in the body is the human papillomavirus (HPV, papillomavirus). It is one of the DNA-containing viruses that explains its ability to integrate into the human genome and alter its structure. The virus enters the bloodstream through microinjuries and settles in the basal layer of the epidermis. Propagation occurs only at the level of the germ layer, in others the virus can be detected, but there is no division at these levels.
There are several clinical forms of the disease:
- manifest - primary infection in people with reduced immunity to the virus;
- subclinical - a form in which manifestations of this pathology occur regularly and then long-term relapses;
- latent - a form (carrier) associated with the direct integration of the virus into the genome.
Factors predisposing to the development of neoplasms:
- Skin damage. The virus cannot enter the bloodstream without at least minimal damage to the skin that serves as the gateway to the infection.
- Decreased immunity. HPV is conditionally attributable to pathogenic viruses, making it dangerous for humans to suppress a normal cellular or humoral immune response.
- Failure to observe hygiene rules when visiting public places. The virus is contagious, and infection can occur in low concentrations in the environment.
- Violation of a normal diet, constant stress and lack of proper rest lead to suppression of the immune system, making the body vulnerable to the effects of the pathogen.
- Common inflammatory and infectious diseases lead to depletion of the immune system (this is especially important for often patients).
- Human papillomavirus can be passed from mother to child at birth (vertical transmission).
External manifestations
The external manifestations of the papillomas shown in the picture have the following characteristics:
- Multiple formations rising above the surface of the skin. They can be classic warts (flat lesions on a broad stem) or thin-stemmed and hang on the skin like a rooster.
- The color rarely differs from the surrounding tissues. Exceptions are cases of germination of the formation in the superficial vascular network, when it is given a reddish tinge. A rapid change in color indicates a possible rebirth (mole discrimination is also performed).
- The contour is usually smooth and clean. Exceptions to this are tumors degenerated into tumors.
- The surface is often smooth and slightly glossy. In the case of the upper eyelid, neck, armpit region, the surface is often uneven with pointed protrusions such as cauliflower.
- The diameter ranges from small foci of a few millimeters to 1-2 cm, and different caliber formations may be present in the same part of the human body. If the papilloma grows too fast, a medical consultation is needed.
How to get rid of papillomas
Papillomas are treated in the body according to a single scheme, regardless of the exact localization (there is an optimal option or combination for each type):
- Destructive methods (physical and chemical).
- Combined techniques (simultaneous effect of topical drugs and destructive treatment options).
Treatment of papillomas with cytotoxic and immunological agents is only allowed under the condition of a complete process (papillomatosis, i. e. a large number of papillomas in the body). In the case of a single formation, such therapy is not performed because there are a large number of side effects and cross-reactions in the drugs of these groups.
Methods of destruction
Destructive treatment options are the same for all types of skin lesions caused by HPV. They can be divided into physical and chemical groups.
Methods of physical destruction:
Method | Description |
---|---|
Electrocoagulation | The formation is cut in layers from healthy skin (a fairly deep defect can form that heals for a long time). In case of deep lesions, it is performed under local anesthesia with a solution of lidocaine (2%). A needle electrode is used for this. |
Cryodestruction | Liquid nitrogen, nitrous oxide or carbon dioxide are usually used. The time of exposure is selected based on the location and extent of the lesion. Often more sessions are needed with a frequency of 7-10 days. |
Laser destruction | Removal of a skin tumor from layer to layer using a certain wave of concentrated light. Exposure can last from an average of 5 seconds to 3 minutes, depending on the extent of the lesion. As a result, scarring appears at the site of the lesion. Bandages are then needed until the wound has healed. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. |
Radiosurgical destruction | The formation is destroyed by an electromagnetic wave in the range of 100 kHz to 105 MHz. In this case, the tissues become warm and local necrosis occurs (suitable for removing small foci). |
Folk remedies
At home, it is permissible to get rid of growth using traditional medicine, but keep in mind that their effectiveness is low. In addition, before starting such treatment, you should consult a specialist to distinguish papillomas from a number of other skin diseases with similar manifestations.
Tools | Recipe |
---|---|
Celandine juice | Puree the stems of the plant with the fresh juice obtained, wipe the affected area 3-5 times a day for 10 days. |
potato juice | Grate the raw potatoes into cubes, then squeeze the resulting juice 2-3 times a day and wipe the formation. The duration of treatment is 4-5 weeks. |
onion juice | Chop 1 onion, press lightly until the juice appears. Apply the resulting suspension to the focus for 10-15 minutes, 2-3 times a day. Treatment should be continued for 3 weeks. |
Calls for marigold | In a mortar, mash several flowers, apply the resulting mixture to the affected area and set for 30 minutes. Repeat the procedure in the morning and evening for 21 days. |
